Medicaid/CHIP Eligibility Rules are Changing
Take Steps to Maintain Your Coverage

Pre-Pandemic Annual Reviews are Back

Beginning March 1, 2023, the state of Utah will restart annual Medicaid and CHIP eligibility reviews that have not been required since the COVID pandemic began in 2020.
If you have Medicaid or CHIP your case will be reviewed to determine if you are still eligible. The Department of Workforce Services (DWS) will review a portion of cases each month for the next 12-14 months until all reviews are complete.
Do you or a family member currently have health coverage through Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)?
Here are some things you can do to prepare:
  • Update your address with DWS. Call DWS at 801-526-0950
  • Check your mail. You will get a letter with your review date. DWS might have questions you need to answer to keep your coverage.

Why is this happening?
In March 2020, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) temporarily waived certain Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) requirements and conditions – including annual eligibility reviews. The easing of these rules helped prevent people with Medicaid and CHIP from losing their health coverage during the pandemic.
However, beginning April 1, 2023, states will be required to restart Medicaid and CHIP eligibility reviews. When states resume these reviews, people could lose their current Medicaid or CHIP coverage. Take Care Utah is here to help you stay covered!
